Watching the water flow over the dam, I was struck by how the reflections of trees on the river bank seemed to be pulled into curved shapes by the motion of the water. Of course that is physical nonsense. The surface of the water itself is curved, which creates the visual effect. But I like the illusion better than the reality in this case.

It was the contrast between glassy reflectivity and roiling boiling foaminess that interested me here. The water before going over the dam, and the water at the bottom of the fall.

Providence Dam. In summer dry periods, the flow rate over the dam is low enough that it is relatively safe to walk across the top of the dam, or even to fish from it. But not on this day!
